The Benevolence Department

Responds to requests from ex-officers and their dependants for advice and information on benefits and accommodation, and provides financial assistance to those in need.

The Head of Benevolence is Evelyn Strouts, an ex WRNS officer. Evelyn coordinates the work of the department and ensures that the welfare support, information and advice is updated and relevant. She liaises with other ex-service and civilian charities, and works closely with  SSAFA Forces Help and The Royal British Legion.

The Deputy Head of Benevolence is Mrs Nahid Malik, who has been at the OA for four years. 

There are two Benevolence Secretaries:  Squadron Leader Penny Burtwell, WRAF (Retd) and Squadron Leader Jim France, RAF (Retd). The Secretaries  provide individuals with advice and information, and consider requests for financial assistance.

The Secretaries are supported by the Assistant Benevolence Secretary Mrs Kathleen Wallis, and two clerks who work closely with the Association’s Accounts Department.

The Benevolence Trustees

There are four Benevolence Trustees who deal with the more costly and complex applications for help.  They liaise closely with the Department Secretaries and provide oversight of the benevolence procedures and guidelines. The Benevolence Trustees are members of the OA's Executive Commitee.
