Frequently asked questions
What are the charges?
With effect from April 1st 2010 the monthly fee will be £2035 which covers accommodation, meals, housekeeping and welfare support. We also have a few rooms for which the charge will be £1955 per month. Bills are raised on the last day of each month in arrears and must be paid by the 15th of the following month.
Will you need to know my financial circumstances?
Knowledge of a resident’s financial situation will help the House Governor provide assistance for those on a low income.
How long is the application process?
On receipt of your application we take up the two character references for which you have provided details and request a medical report from your doctor which you will have given us permission to do on the application form. When these are received the medical report is sent to the Officers’ Association Doctor who authorises us to proceed. We will then invite you for an overnight stay at Huntly followed by an interview with a panel of trustees. You will be informed of their decision at the time. The offer of a place is valid for a period of 6 months after which we would need a further medical report.
Is Huntly for single people only?
All of our rooms are only suitable for single occupancy.
Will my room be furnished?
Rooms can be made available furnished or un-furnished. Some residents like to bring their own furniture and others prefer us to provide it for them.
Do I look after my own room?
We have a Housekeeping team who service all rooms.
Do you provide a telephone and television?
All rooms have telephone sockets which residents can arrange to have connected through British Telecom.
A central TV licence is provided for TVs in rooms but residents bring their own equipment.
Is smoking allowed?
No smoking is allowed in the public rooms.
Can I bring my pet?
We do not have the facilities within a communal environment to allow pets.
Can I have guests?
You are welcome to invite visitors to Huntly. You can reserve the library where we serve meals to residents with guests. Should this already be booked visitors are welcome in the main dining room.
Depending on the availability of rooms you can book visitors in for Bed and Breakfast.
Are the rules strict?
No. All we ask that all residents adhere to the few rules that we have in place in order to create a harmonious environment for all who live at Huntly.
What happens if I become ill?
A local doctor visits each week and we have a team of Welfare Officers who provide support for the residents. They are all trained in first-aid and can respond to any emergencies that might occur.
What happens if I can no longer remain at Huntly?
Huntly is a residential home and we do not have the facilities to provide nursing care. However, should the situation arise we will support you for as long as possible and will work closely with you, your family, the Local Authority and other relevant agencies to find alternative accommodation. The Officers’ Association is your charity and is here to help you wherever you live.
