Huntly

The Officers' Association owns and manages a very high quality residential home for single male and female ex-officers of HM Armed Forces and their widows/widowers. Set in its own magnificent grounds in the small village of Bishopsteignton overlooking the Teign estuary in South Devon, Huntly is easily accessible by road off the A380/M5, and by rail from nearby Newton Abbot station on the mainline between London and Plymouth.

Huntly offers an excellent standard of accommodation within a caring and friendly environment. Each resident is assured of a centrally heated private room with en suite facilities. The public rooms are all tastefully furnished and decorated, and include a sun room, a snooker room, a coffee lounge, a library, a drawing room, two TV lounges and a large dining room. Car parking is available within the grounds. Residents can participate in a range of activities both within the house, and further afield in the local community and beyond.

There is no age limit, but potential applicants must be mobile, able to look after themselves and attend meals. Although a trained welfare officer is on call 24 hours a day, she is there to deal with minor ailments and to handle emergencies which are referred to the local medical services. The local doctor holds a weekly surgery at Huntly for the convenience of residents.

All residents pay a set fee which offers excellent value for money for the standard of accommodation provided at Huntly. The fee is reviewed annually. Financial assistance can be provided for those on low incomes to ensure that Huntly is accessible to all eligible ex-officers, whatever their circumstances.

This description of Huntly cannot truly convey the atmosphere of our residential home, which is both warm and convivial. If you are interested in becoming a resident, we strongly recommend that you take the opportunity to visit Huntly, either before or after you have actually applied. The visit usually lasts for one or two days, which allows you to meet some of your fellow officers and of course to gain a real feel for the home. You should arrange the visit by contacting the House Governor on 01626 775223 to see for yourself how our residents enjoy all that Huntly has to offer in the friendship and comradeship so reminiscent of their time in the Services.

Macdonnell Gardens

The Officers' Association manages a small tranquil estate of twelve bungalows for disabled officers of HM Armed Forces and their families located at Leavesden just outside Watford. The bungalows are situated on a delightfully secluded two-acre site, and positioned facing an attractive central communal garden planted with shrubs and roses that is bounded by a private access road.

Each bungalow has 2 to 3 bedrooms, together with a lounge-cum-dining room, kitchen and bathroom. Full gas central heating is provided throughout the accommodation. All the bungalows have a small open front garden with parking space in front and good size back gardens each with a garage at the rear. There are separate rear entrance drives to the garages.

The bungalows and communal garden are maintained to a high standard by the Officers' Association who also provide the residents with welfare support through the services of one of their local Honorary Representatives. Shops and other amenities are close at hand, together with easy access to fast road and rail links to London and other parts of the country.

Residents pay a very modest monthly maintenance contribution which does not reflect the high standard of accommodation provided.
