Forget outdated stereotypes of stuffy professors, locked away in their offices dusting down encyclopedias – the world of higher education has adapted and evolved to be a far more competitive and commercial arena.
Here, Martyn Thomas, Director of Business Development Middlesex University will discuss his role, developing new international partnerships and business opportunities, and how he transferred his skills from an officer in the infantry to higher education.
Martyn retired from Army in 2005 to help establish G4S Global Risks as a start up in the role of Operations Director. After three years he was invited to join the parent company as Director International Business Development. He left after two years when the post moved to the US. He then joined Tribal, an educational consultancy on a short term project in the UK and China. For the last four years he has been Director of Business Development at Middlesex University. His main role is identifying and developing new campus opportunities overseas, developing new international partnerships and business opportunities outside the mainstream.
