OA announce their backing of the Nationwide Resettlement Awards 2016

The OA are pleased to announce their backing of the Nationwide Resettlement Awards 2016. The Awards exist to celebrate the achievements and success military personnel have made in their transition into civilian life and to acknowledge the efforts of organisations offering support to the Service Leaver during this transition.

Ten awards are presented at the event and for the first time this year they will include - The OA Award for Excellence in Work Experience Programmes - awarded to the organisation demonstrating excellence in delivering work placement, work experience and civilian work attachment programmes available to Service Leavers or veterans.

Liz Stevens, Head of Employment Services, comments, “It is important for the OA to support employers to communicate and celebrate the fantastic work they do to assist ex-Services personnel in finding their new career. The OA is passionate about enabling employers to share best practice across its Employers Network and advocate the mutual benefits of participation. We think work experience placements are a fantastic example of this, and we hope through supporting this award we can encourage more organisations to consider running a placement and shine a spotlight on the impact they can make”

We believe work experience placements are of huge importance to those transitioning out of the services.

David Duffy, CTP Contract Director

David Duffy, CTP Contract Director, says "We believe work experience placements are of huge importance to those transitioning out of the services. We feel placements make a real difference to the lives of those Service leavers going through their resettlement with CTP, allowing them to make more measured decisions about their futures and to experience the civilian workplace first-hand, identifying any training needs or areas for development and establishing connections for the future. The placements also offer considerable value to employers, enabling them to assess ex-forces personnel as potential employees and to shortlist individuals."

David continues "We are delighted that the Officers' Association has partnered with Pathfinder Magazine to sponsor the Award for Excellence in Work Experience Programmes for Service Leavers and we fully support the important work the OA does with Officers."

The deadline for submitting an entry to be considered for an award is 5pm on Friday September 9th 2016 and organisations interested in entering can find out more information here.

The Awards will be presented to the winners at a black tie dinner at Hotel Football in Manchester on November 2nd, 2016.
