The OA are to repeat the success of previous employer insight days by bringing together employers looking to translate military skills within the civilian workplace.
Employers Knowledge Swap events set out to explore how a business is able to translate the skills gained in the military when seeking to attract, select and develop talent within their own organisations. The next OA Employers Knowledge Swap event will take place on 24th May, in London.
Recent research, developed by the OA, Deloitte and Forces in Mind Trust: ‘Veterans Work’, has revealed that whilst 71% of organisations have expressed a strong interest in employing veterans, only 39% would ever consider employing someone with no industry experience at all.
Network Rail has begun to address this challenge by examining the skills and attributes that military personnel possess. By mapping those skills across to their own organisational requirements, many employers will begin to recognise the skills and aptitudes ex-military personnel are able to offer.
Sophia Koniarska, Business Development Manager, says “The aim of the OA Employer Knowledge Swap is to deliver a forum able to share current initiatives and activities with a purpose of identifying some of the benefits and barriers faced when translating military skills into a civilian context.”
Offering an opportunity to share experiences, knowledge and practical tips through peer-to-peer learning, the OA Employer Knowledge Swap event welcomes businesses that are already working to support the skills translation and those who are keen to learn more about the different methodologies and approaches used.
The event is part of the OA Employer Network series focusing on providing practical employer led opportunities to all that could benefit from engaging with employers that support the transition of military personnel.
The event will start at 10am and run until 4pm on 24th May at NCVO in London.
