13th September 2017: The Leaders Club Networking – A New Kind Of Reporting, Constructive Journalism – London

The Officers’ Association (OA) has secured a corporate membership with The Leaders Club, a London based networking group. This will allow up to 5 serving or former officers from the OA community to join their monthly networking events. If you wish to attend simply click ‘Register’; places will be allocated on a first come first serve basis. There will be a small charge of £15 (non-refundable) for those attending; this covers both the speaker and refreshments.

At the next event, you will hear from Sir Martyn Lewis CBE, Broadcaster, Journalist and Author. During 32 years as a television journalist Martyn anchored every mainstream national news programme on ITV & BBCTV, and now works extensively in the voluntary sector. As well as being a Vice-President of Macmillan Cancer Support for almost 30 years, his current charity roles include Chairman of the Queen’s Award for Voluntary Service Committee, President of United Response and Fixers, and Patron of the Patchwork Foundation and Dementia UK.

He has just stepped down after serving six years as Chairman of NCVO (the National Council for Voluntary Organisations), the main umbrella organisation for the sector, during which he chaired an inquiry into levels of executive pay in the voluntary sector.

A long-time campaigner for “constructive journalism”, he is the Patron of Positivenews.org.uk and a Director of IPSO (The Independent Press Standards Organisation). In 2013 he returned to broadcasting to present a weekly interview programme called “Agenda” on “The Wireless”, a new radio station for the over-50s” created by the charity Age UK.
He was awarded a knighthood in the 2016 New Year Honours List “for services to the voluntary sector – especially the hospice movement”.
