Veterans Minister to Promote ‘Military is Good for Business’

The Rt Hon Tobias Ellwood MP will outline why business should recruit former officers, at an OA event in London.

As Parliamentary Under Secretary of State and Minister for Defence People and Veterans, Mr Ellwood will highlight that ‘Military is Good for Business’. As a former Army captain, he understands the career challenges officers face on leaving the Armed Forces. Former Trade Minister and Crossbench Peer, Lord Digby Jones, and Chief of Defence People, Lieutenant General Richard Nugee, will also attend.

The event will bring together people from business, the public sector, charities and the military.

Lee Holloway, OA Chief Executive, said: “Our event aims to give business the opportunity to appreciate at first hand the culture and qualities of the Armed Services, and to offer Service personnel an insight into the skills and attributes sought by business.”

At the event, the Officers’ Association Employer Recognition Award will also be presented. The award is given to an employer who recognises and utilises the transferable skills and qualities of the officer corps. This year the recipient is NHS Step into Health programme, for being a leader in recruiting veterans and their partners. Step into Health uses the expertise people gained in the military to meet skills shortages in the NHS.

The OA works with organisations to develop programmes that attract, recruit and develop former officers. We also run networking events, share best practice and undertake research.
