The international brand was one of a diverse range of employers to speak at the OA Employment Symposium.
Gillian Russell, Military Program Manager at Amazon EU and a former Royal Navy Logistics Officer, is passionate about recruiting people with a military background. Like the other employers who attended, Gillian discussed the opportunities available to veterans, specifically in Operations Management.
Gillian said: “We actively recruit veterans at Amazon because we know how great they are for our business. We recognise that the skills you get when you are serving are very transferrable into Amazon’s operational environment.”
In addition to employers, other career experts shared their insights on how to have a successful transition into a new career. Carol Brooks, a Business Psychologist, gave the keynote presentation, and discussed the importance of building personal resilience through self-reflection and using practical approaches to help find a new career.
When asked what advice she would give to Service leavers, Carol said: “Know yourself – it’s so important that the start point is increasing self-awareness and permission to think about what drives you.”
Nigel Hare, Director of Operations at the OA and a former Royal Navy officer, said about the event: “I’m hugely impressed at the interaction between Service leavers and employers, who are just fantastic and give up their time to come and support us.”
