The McKinsey Insight Day

On Friday 21st June, the OA partnered with McKinsey to hold an insight day for serving and former military personnel to learn about the work they do and what it means to be a consultant. McKinsey also shared practical tips on the application process.

Why work with Mckinsey

McKinsey & Company is a global management consulting firm that serves organisations across the private, public and third sectors. They help their clients make lasting improvements to their performance and realize their most important goals.

Over nearly a century, they’ve built a firm uniquely equipped to this task, and their work has moved beyond traditional strategy consulting into industry-leading capabilities in digital transformation, advanced analytics, big data, product design, and software engineering.

The event was hosted by a multinational team of ex-military consultants, whose backgrounds ranged from the British Army and Norwegian Air Force to the US Marine Corps.

They gave an overview of McKinsey as well as an insight into the application process. This included an introduction to case study interviews to understand why they are used, together with an interactive problem-solving challenge. They also offered practical CV writing tips and guidance on the interview process.

Throughout, delegates were encouraged to ask questions and engage.

In summary: Have a positive mind set. Be yourself. Be confident and proud of your achievements. Practise the case study and seek advice.

How to apply

Experienced hires can apply all year round.
