KPMG is committed to supporting the Armed Forces community and its Military Leavers Programme offers an opportunity for veterans to make an immediate impact in a business environment.
You do not need to be a trained accountant to work at an accounting firm. The programme offers an initial six-month paid contract with the opportunity to subsequently secure a permanent position. The roles could be in any of the business’s practice areas and UK offices.
The Military Leavers Programme has run since 2013 and so far has a 100% conversion rate to permanent contracts, reflecting both the quality of candidates and the value they have brought to their teams within KPMG.
What makes the KPMG programme unique is that there is no formal intake. Instead, individuals are matched with existing opportunities that complement their skills and expertise. The programme offers invaluable experience and will support your transition to the corporate sector, all whilst being paid.
Jen Page joined KPMG after serving twelve years in the Army’s Intelligence Corps. Her military career focussed on surveillance, and led to commanding a Task Force on operations in Afghanistan and promotion to Major. She enjoyed her experiences in the Army but felt the time was right to start a new career that offered fresh challenges and greater day-to-day stability.
KPMG appealed to Jen because it provides continuous training and development and is a globally recognised brand. Jen joined the Military Leavers Programme in 2015, initially in the Corporate Intelligence Team, but soon secured a permanent role with Forensic Investigations and Compliance for Financial Services. She has been subsequently promoted to a Senior Manager in the Financial Crime Technology Team.
A number of key skills that Jen developed in the military have enabled her to succeed as a consultant, including effective communication, strong people management and the capacity to absorb information quickly and make decisions. For Jen, “the bespoke nature of the programme enabled me to find a role I truly enjoy and a career I am proud of.”
