Growing Hemp in the Brecon Beacons

RuRALink is a network by veterans, for veterans pursuing a career in the land-based sector.

This online event features a talk from Steve Kinghan, an officer with the Intelligence Corps who is due to leave the military in May 2021, having spent 12 years in the Army. Steve will discuss his plans for the future as he moves on to pastures new, including his farm, Brecon Hemp, where he grows industrial hemp and makes traditional Welsh Cider.

RuRALink aims to inspire Service leavers, by showing how your military experience is directly relevant and demonstrating why employers are very keen to recruit you into the industry. Join RuRALink's virtual event to:

  • build your network
  • learn how Steve and his family have planned ahead
  • interact with employers looking to recruit into the industry
  • ask questions and offer your top tips to fellow Service leavers

Steve Kinghan on his farmAbout Steve's Farm:
Brecon Hemp is currently the only hemp growing initiative in the Brecon Beacons and is reigniting a crop that used to be grown widely in the area hundreds of years ago. Starting small, they aim to provide the building industry with high quality, carbon neutral/negative materials for sustainable and environmentally friendly construction. A dual-purpose crop, they also aim to provide numerous industries with hemp oil for personal consumption and consumer items. Naturally more efficient at sequestrating carbon than traditional tree planting initiatives, Brecon Hemp offers individuals the chance to offset annual vehicle, commercial flight and personal CO2 footprints in single growing cycles.
