The Officers’ Association (OA) provided a complete day of networking, industry know-how and insight from employers for serving, transitioning and former officers to help improve their chances of finding civilian jobs.
Hosted by BT, the Officers’ Employment Forum focused on increasing employability in civilian life and delivered a combination of career-focused break out sessions with opportunities to meet employers from a range of sectors including: Consultancy, Project and Operations Management Cyber and Financial Services.
Former officers who have built successful commercial careers shared their experiences and insights. Speakers included Kevin Mathers, who previously served as a Captain in the British Army and now works as Sales Director for Google UK. Kevin outlined how military attributes and skills can be transferred to the civilian workplace.
OA’s Operations Director Nigel Hare commented: “The Officers’ Employment Forum aims to bring employers together with officer job seekers in a relaxed business environment, where people can connect and explore career paths.
Mark Arscott, BT’s Head of Military Engagement, says “BT is delighted to host this event in support of the ongoing recruitment of armed forces leavers and veterans into both BT’s cyber security division and more widely across the business.”
Officers need to consider how they can future-proof their careers and this employment forum promises to support them to do this with its clear focus on digital technology and how it is shaping career paths.”
