Jacobs understands the value of recruiting ex-military personnel

From providing speakers at OA employment events and advertising job opportunities to developing a network of contacts for former officers to engage with, Jacobs understands the value of recruiting ex-military personnel and their needs. Working with the Officers’ Association’ exemplifies their commitment to recruiting from the officer talent pool.

Forward-thinking and proactive, Jacobs identified the need to simplify their recruitment process and provide a supportive, more intuitive approach to address some of the challenges ex-military personnel face when transitioning from military to civilian employment. Project Soft Landing (PSL) was introduced to help address both issues and works by engaging with potential Jacobs employees considering Project Management as a career while they are still serving or are in the process of leaving the military.

The skills and experiences that former officers bring into the workplace were identified by Jacobs as critical to the success of PSL given how they fill the skill gaps and needs of their clients. The OA, with their engaged and active officer community, was approached to partner and promote Jacobs as a potential employer alongside Project Soft Landing.

“Jacobs has utilised the rich talent pool that the OA offers to continue meeting our clients’ needs. We look forward to working with the OA in 2022.”

The OA’s Women into Employment virtual event, held in March 2021 was identified by Jacobs for its potential to support their recruitment of female Service leavers and closely aligns with their aims to increase gender diversity. A decision was made to sponsor this OA flagship event.

“The OA’s Women into Employment event allowed us to pitch ourselves to the Armed Forces community against our competitors. The reach and level of engagement with 200 plus highly motivated and skilled individuals would be an impossible tasking for even the most capable recruitment company.”

Robert Kelly, Head of Military Talent, Jacobs

The partnership between the OA and Jacobs has resulted in 31 referrals with 14 successful applicants starting employment or with a start date pending.

The success of the OA’s Women into Employment event and the levels of post-event interaction between Jacobs and ex-forces personnel who attended prompted Jacobs to continue to engage with subsequent OA events. Jacobs were a Participant Sponsor for the November Officer Employment Forum and are engaged with the OA to extend their support into 2021-2022.
