Why Ocado Group Are Passionate About Recruiting Officer Talent
At Ocado Group, we are invested and passionate about working with ex-military personnel. It’s why we have chosen to partner with the Officers’ Association to recruit military talent.
We can offer you the opportunity to harness the skills, motivations and values you have gained in the military to develop your career further in a supportive, inspiring environment with a growing, global FTSE 100 business.
Ocado Group is a global technology and solutions provider with a mission to change the way the world shops for groceries. Our solution is a unique, end-to-end ecommerce platform powered by cutting-edge tech, research, and innovation. The Ocado Smart Platform is the most advanced fulfilment and logistics model of its kind. Our sophisticated grid system, bots, and highly automated, intelligent solutions set us ahead of the rest.
Ocado has partnered with ten ambitious grocery retailers across four continents so far, from Ocado.com – a joint UK venture, 50% owned by M&S – to Australian grocer, Coles. Not only do we design our own technology, we also provide an end-to-end solution for our clients which involves many phases of delivery such as design, planning, building, and implementation of a fully operational automated fulfilment centre. We are number one in the world for our geographic reach and we’re always looking for talented employees to join all parts of our expanding business.
Ben Girling – Platform Implementation Project Manager at Ocado, 2020
Major in the Royal Engineers, Army, 2006-2016
“Ocado is a big company with a small company mindset. You are not just following a process, but helping to create it as you go. Ocado expects ‘mission command’ and for its project teams to proactively identify the best way to deliver projects and overcome barriers.
Ocado also values input from everyone, your thoughts and opinions will be listened to at every level. There is already a strong ex-military contingent in Ocado it is definitely an environment that people with a military background will thrive in.”
Jamie Slade – Service Delivery Regional Manager at Ocado, 2012
Staff Sergeant in the Royal Corps of Signals, 1995-2012
“I have found that the high standards and requirement for performance in Ocado is no different than that in the military which made my transition very easy as this was something that I was used to and would recommend this move to anyone thinking of a second career.”
Moving into civilian employment with Ocado Group
Ocado has employees across our business that come from the military service including the Royal Military Police, the Royal Artillery, British Armed Forces, REME, the Navy and more. We have found them to be resilient leaders with a can-do attitude that fits well with the Ocado culture.
We currently have a number of opportunities across engineering, project management, operational management of our fulfilment centres and many other technical roles that can benefit from the military skill set.
Coming from a military background you’ll be used to fast paced work, problem solving and adapting quickly to new situations and surroundings. Military life will have trained you to communicate respectfully and effectively with all individuals, including high ranking officials and civilians with diverse backgrounds. These are all critical skills Ocado values as our roles are both external client and internal stakeholder facing and require effective communication.
Your time in the military is likely to have forced you to learn how to work with and succeed with all types of personalities. Knowing when to lead and when to follow and support, which is invaluable to Ocado.
