Following the announcement of the closure of the Officers’ Association Benevolent Fund (OABF), we are now entering the final stages of this carefully managed transition. The OABF will formally close on 31 July 2025, following extensive consultation with stakeholders and close liaison with the Privy Council throughout the process.
From the outset, the OABF’s absolute priority has been the wellbeing and continued support of our beneficiaries. Each has been kept informed and actively supported at every step, ensuring a smooth and dignified handover of assistance where
needed.
To preserve the OABF’s legacy and ensure the continuity of support, the OABF’s remaining funds have been transferred on a pro-rata basis to three respected armed forces charities:
- Royal Navy Officers’ Charity (RNOC)
- RAF Benevolent Fund (RAFBF)
- The Sandhurst Trust
Each of these organisations is now committed to supporting former OABF beneficiaries in alignment with their respective service backgrounds.
In recognition of the long-standing additional support given by The Seafarers’ Charity to our Royal Navy beneficiaries, the OABF Board has also made a donation to them to help continue this vital work.
We are proud to share that the OABF team has been well supported by the OABF Board and CEO throughout this process, with many team members moving on to exciting new roles. Their dedication, compassion and professionalism have underpinned the charity’s work for generations and the values that have guided our work will continue through the organisations now entrusted with supporting our former beneficiaries.
As we close this final chapter, we do so with pride in our legacy and deep gratitude to all those who have contributed to our mission over the decades. Though the Officers’ Association Benevolent Fund will cease to exist in name, its values — grounded in duty, compassion, and service — will live on through the trusted hands of our successor charities, continuing to shape the lives of those we set out to support.
